EczemaWise is an eczema-tracking app created to help people understand and manage their eczema treatment. It was built with the eczema community and leading healthcare providers. The app features a tracker to help users with daily happenings, whether the condition is getting worse or will flare.
Looking through this app showcases more of a technical side where data is inserted about the user's mood, foods they are intaking, and how severe their condition is. On a positive note, it also enables users to understand the symptoms daily and read about the latest findings or articles. It creates a health report which enables them to contact doctors about any problems and receive medication. Users have a choice to decide the type of medication they wish to receive and get an idea about the medication before meeting with the doctor. However, it is limited in terms of features, which means that users do not have access to improve their condition mainly because it is only created to track the skin. Users are unable to understand whether their skin is improving or worsening since it doesn't have features like ‘tips’ for users to intake. Users cannot interact with it properly, which means the app doesn't have a ‘personal’ feel and doesn't portray a fulfilling experience.
Proton Health: Eczema Care is also an application created to tackle users’ eczema, improving brain health and regaining control of their eczema.
Created by doctors, the purpose of the app includes similar features like ‘EczemaWise’ showcases three tools and steps to tackle eczema. The steps include; a six-week programme tailored to improve the symptoms, as well as being in control of their mindset. The second step is CBT-guided sessions to improve brain health using behavioural therapy and techniques. Lastly, step three is a ‘score’ feature in which users earn points to earn the title ‘Protoneer’ in improving their mental and physical health overall. The approach almost showcases a ‘gamified’ type of app that users can interact with but also advise important and necessary information. It makes users feel involved it is portrayed as programme users need to complete, which encourages them to use the app.
From a visual point of view, the product may be difficult to understand for some users because it looks too advanced with the graphs and charts, and I think it is important for the layout to look simple and easy to understand. It has no form of a diagnosis feature, this applies to users that it is not as user-friendly and the app is not as reliable as it seems to be.
MiiSkin is a Mole and skin condition tracker app. Although the purpose of the app may not relate to my product, the main factor is the implementation of AI. I specifically chose this app as I will be incorporating AI into my eczema product. Personally, I think Miiskin is very thorough in its user flow, the process of tracking moles consists of using AI technology to scan any differences in the pigmentation. They also use computer vision AR technology which takes full body images of the user to review new and old moles, allowing users to view a comparison of changes over time. MiiSkin does not provide a diagnosis for users, however, the quality they present allows users to take care of their well-being and make them feel involved.
In terms of UI, some layouts can be simplified especially the amount of content displayed on one screen. It may look a bit too technical if a certain age group doesn't know how to use it. This is why it could become a burden for them and cannot be accessed easily.
